Hello this is Mary from Otakanomori branch.
I can’t believe it’s already July! I can see so much improvement in the
students and how hard they are working!
In July, Americans celebrate their Independence in a big way… BBQ
parties!
Since the kids go back to school by the middle of August early September
(after Labor Day); July is one of the last summer parties for American
students.
We love grilling burgers, hotdogs, corn, and other fun grill fixin’s.
This is a fun celebration with family and usually the entire
neighborhood!
It is usually around a pool, lake, or beach as it’s very hot this time
of year.
The biggest similarity between America and Japan in July is the
fireworks!! We love to shoot off firework’s and sparklers in our
backyards, as well as places like Disney or other attractions. However
Japan outshines America with their firework displays, size, color, and
loudness!! BOOM !!
The biggest difference is the amount of homework!!! Japan has a
significantly bigger class load (more subjects) and after school
responsibilities (clubs and sports) in the same day than American
students.
Summer homework, American students typically have one or two summer
books to read, and some small homework tasks (short essays, or quizzes
about the reading). They also have club sports that are often year round
and school sports that start after school starts.
It has been a really fun to learn the similarities and differences in
our cultures!
