Otakanomori Blog

Hi everyone it’s Simon again from the Otakonomori school.
It has a super-hot summer and it’s been difficult staying cool.
I hope you are all well and enjoyed your summer vacation. I had lots of
fun playing in the pool with my family and to stay cool I ate lots of
summer foods like watermelon, shaved ice and ice cream.
I’d love to hear what you did in your vacation, and how did you keep
cool?
For babies, begin and 1st classes they have been learning summer words
like beetle, cicada, watermelon, hat, tent, mountain and parasol.
Did you see any of these things on your vacation?
Did you catch any beetles at the park? I caught 2 beetles and saw many
cicadas resting on the trees.
This month some of the students have continued learning about different
times of the day and their daily routines, the next part of the day is
the evening.
We talked about various activities that people do in the evening and how
each family has a different order for doing them. Some people watch Tv
and then take a bath and other families eat dinner and then take a bath.
Its interesting that all families have different routines.
Some students were surprised to hear that people in the UK often shower
in the morning instead of at night! Does that surprise you?
I’m interested to hear what is your family routine in the evening?
Students in 2nd and 3rd classes have been learning about locations and
where people are located at a certain time. For example, if you are
looking for your father at home, but you can’t find him… you could ask
your mother “Where is he?” and your mother might say … “He is at work or
at the shop.”
We have also been practicing some phrases that sound more natural like
‘at the movies’ instead of ‘at the movie theater’.
It can be confusing, but when we are talking about places we say ‘at’
but when we talk about transport we say ‘on’.
So, the students have been learning when to use ‘He/She is at the bus
stop’ but then changing to ‘He/She is on the bus.’

Summer is coming to an end and soon it will be cooler and autumn will be
starting. I can’t wait for the cooler temperatures and nice autumn food.

Take care and I’ll see you in class soon.
